Solid waste management in Nepal has been a significant challenge for many years, exacerbated by a lack of clear plans and programs to address the problem amid growing population and urbanization. DMC, a recognized academic institute in Nepal, intends to tackle this problem through the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R) methodology. The objective of the project is to enhance understanding among students, faculty, staff, and the local community regarding the impact of improper waste disposal on local ecosystems and public health. The aim of the project is to develop a model in waste management that can be replicated in local communities, including Baglung Municipality.

UNCON and DMC signed an MOU on August 4, 2024, to launch this project with financial support from UNCON and DMC as the implementing agency. This may be the first time a leading educational institution in Nepal has initiated such a program to develop a model that aligns with local needs. The project's duration is six months, extendable based on progress and scope. UNCON is proud to collaborate with DMC on this project, which is hoped to become a cornerstone in solid waste management. In the coming days, we intend to expand this to other universities and local agencies. Thank you all for your support and cooperation in making this project an important milestone for the future. To make this project even more effective, UNCON is exploring possible collaboration with the Association of Nepalese Agricultural Professionals in Americas (NAPA).
